The artists and staff at Happy Puppy Records are pleased to offer this EP of Christmas music for free download. The EP features previously unreleased material, and some tracks that were only sent to radio stations in previous years (available for the first time publicly). Fudge's smooth rendition of the Carpenters hit "Merry Christmas Darling" is a highlight, Chester The Chicken clucks his way through a holiday standard and Lee Rosevere offers two entertaining instrumentals. We hope...

This is a compilation of tracks, ranging of themes written for radio programs, completed songs and left-over experiments from the past 10 years. A lot of it is constructed from samples, with additional live instrumentation. A number of tracks included here were originally composed for use as radio themes, underscores, or for 'backtime' (a term used by in the radio industry as background music that is timed to finish at a desired time). Originally, a few tracks had vocals (particular to the show...

Liner Notes from original cassette release (1997): This project started about 2 years ago, when I got a call from a nameless Director (a small, but influential underground filmmaker of unknown origin) who asked me if I was interested in composing a soundtrack to his yet-to-be-completed film, B.A.M. I was thrilled. I had been experimenting with instrumental music that virtually had no other means of being released. The song had no real commercial potential and could never be played live, so this...

Since the ukulele is big again, let's return to the time when the Ukulele was first introduced into popular culture as we present this compilation of ukulele songs from public-domain recorded collections. This compilation would not be possible without Michael Cumella (Mac) @ Antique Phonograph show on WFMU , archive.org,...

Happy Puppy Records is proud to announce the first release of the labels latest member, Monopole. Two years ago Monopole (A.K.A. Richard Sudney) began creating electronic music in his basement where he lives, in a suburb of Detroit, MI. This self taught visual artist and electronics guru makes his compilations out of field recordings that he took while roaming around empty factories and abandoned buildings around the city of Detroit. Happy Puppy Records is proud to release the debut album of DJ Paternoster called “White Flag”. [hpr011] A big music fan, DJ decided to start writing his own music and has only been doing so for less than 6 months. “White Flag” is a fine collection of spacey electronic slighty-techno tunes that feature flurrious and happily hypnotic melodies that seem to dance in the air. An enjoyable listening experience, suitable for many moods.

Inspired by the shredding videos posted by St. Sanders, Happy Puppy put out the call for shreds and boy, did we get some! Five artistes plus the infamous St. Sanders himself contribute highly unique and entertaining shreddings. Everything from shredded kazoos, hoovers, electronica to good ol' electric guitars turned up to 11 are here in all their wanky glory. Nigel Tufnel would be proud. This...

Fresh from the farm, Chester Chicken clucks and bukaws his way through a sure-fire hit combination of tunes, especially chosen by Chester. Tastefully backed up by the Digital Chicken Consort (and help from Clara, his little chickadee) Chester makes these songs completely his own. You'll never forget it. "'deeply present moment' was a very difficult album for me to produce. It relied very heavily upon the utilization of various outside sound sources (i.e. shortwave radio, record player, micro-cassette deck, etc) as opposed to my usual, very software driven production style and were also only recorded in a single attempt (thus, the title "deeply present moment"). These sounds were then ran through my mixer and recorded straight to mp3 at 256 kbps. Again, Each attempt at a track...

"The Gold Room" was created using a combination of audio manipulation techniques inspired by the experiments of Brian Joseph Davis and Alvin Lucier. Each piece is the result of playing all the songs from a particular artists 'gold collection' (or greatest hits release) simultaneously. The sound is then played back to itself over and over (often over a hundred times at least) as if it were playing a room over loudspeakers, adding a new layer of natural room reverb with every pass....

Back in 1998, the Jem Starlight Jukebox was a one-of-a-kind place on the internet. Sure, there were lots of fan pages and message boards (the biggest one is still going!) but for a time, the JSS was the only website that housed every single song from every single episode of the animated series. This was not easy in 1998, as Geocities had limited storage space and kept changing the rules about how much you could put on a single account, and how much people could download from you. Run by the...

c4 returns with another EP of spacey electronic loops and grooves. Very much in the style of Jean Michel-Jarre and spacey-masters The Orb, these four tracks show Adam's melodic side, but still retain the hypnotic quality from his other work. By using no percussion or drums, the music has a floating quality, with movement propelled by the rhythm of the melodies. Quite easily a favorite of mine out of all of Adam's work - download it now, you will enjoy it too.

Fudge also rocks up Nino Tempo & April Stevens super-long title "I've Been Carrying A Torch For You So Long That I've Burned A Great Big Hole In My Heart", and if that wasn't enough...a Shaggs cover that is incredibly different, but rendered with heart.

Just in time for fall, the ambient electronic work of Graffiti Mechanism joins the Happy Puppy label with his EP "Harvest Moon". The title is definitely an indication of the kind of mood the music gives, somewhere in between the organic feeling of the season and the electronic warmth that can happen with the ambient genre. Go for a walk with your earbuds in a pumpkin patch. We hope you enjoy this EP as much as we do.

Scrap Heap makes his debut on Happy Puppy with the experimental noise EP Outset. Scott Graue, the man behind Scrap Heap, is also a fellow netlabeler and propriator of Oceanbase label. Unlike a lot of noise music produced, Scott's approach to taking a single solitary sample and stretching, expanding and morphing it beyond it's original form, is intelligent and dynamic. Tidal EP - Aural Surfaces When I was a child I had recurring dreams that were primarily textural, my fingertips touching various surfaces. The dreams weren't particularly pleasant, but not nightmares either. The structure of the dream consisted solely of variation in texture, and within that synaesthetic nature of dreams the experience seemed simultaneously aural. Those dreams abandoned me at age 12 or so, but a lot of my music is an attempt to recapture those textures, to plot those surfaces...

Ghost Words is Lee Rosevere's first solo piano improvisational release, digitally recorded live with no overdubs or edits. These compositions do not follow traditional song structure. Much like a layered painting, emotion is the guiding force behind invention: melodies hide inside one another, and moods and textures change frequently. Lee's musical influences include Zappa's instrumental work, Michael Snow, Steve Reich, and John Cage. File under: classical, experimental

Under the shell of noisy electro-dub and electro-acoustic suggestions, the entire work is inspired by the futurist artist Ardengo Soffici : like his poetry, Fields tries to re-create the junction between the profound empathy with the homeland (Tuscany: the same for both) and the impulse to dynamism, a typical futurist feature.

This is a debut release on Happy Puppy from Adam Sigmund, aka Origami Repetika , aka Agent 220 of Origami Republika (universal network of people who are interested in sharing expressions) Origami Repetika has a number of releases on our close friends Adam Crammond's proc-records.net label, as well as the infamous 20kpbs and abulia concepts. "These are two tracks I recently finished before taking a break for the rest of 2011 as my new wife and I are getting a place of our own right after...

Taker 51 it is Raúl Díaz personal project. He has been making music since 1998. A hard to define style, he tries to blend electronic and organic sounds, from ambient to industrial. Post-rock and bits of psychedelic sounds are added to the mix too, but with melody always present as a fundamental part of his songs.   Raúl has also recorded the soundtrack for Poder Contra Verdad documentary, premiered at the 58th edition of the International Film Festival of Valladolid, and nowadays he's...

A year ago, I put out the call for drones - not just any drones, but drones that would be good to make dinner by. The inspiration came from those thematic 50's and 60's "mood music" albums.. music to water the garden by, music to relax by, etc. And I received quite a range of interpretations of what exactly drones would be good while preparing dinner. After all the tracks were submitted and I began putting everything together, I really wanted to have no interruptions between the...

After completing my over-the-top conceptual space prog-rock album Lion on the Beach (by the Electric Amygdala ), I wanted to write new material, but this time approach it in the exact opposite manner. I limited myself instrumentally to solo piano (which ended being augmented by strings on a few tracks) and deliberately tried to compose as simply as possible. I didn't overthink anything, or stop myself if the melodies seemed too cheesy, or if it seemed I was dangerously close to new-age Narada...

Here is an assortment of pieces gathered from various sources. Most of them originate through my typical process, which is to develop the score while solving a compositional problem. Several of the pieces began as character studies. To get hold of the character of interest, I often wrote some words to start. Others address structural challenges; such pieces can begin by sketching an overall shape or fragment of modal polyphony. For some, I have forgotten what the problem was now that piece is...

Happy Puppy is proud to present a single release by Canadian singer/songwriter Morgan Sadler. She describes her musical creations as beautiful disasters with thoughtful, yet sometimes obscure lyrics, sung with sincere emotion. Morgan has been performing and writing for years, getting her start at The Merchant, in Kingston ON. Since then, she formed a trio and released her first EP called Turn, one of the tracks featured here "Go On" won a Toronto Independent Music Award for Best Song...

After releasing his first single on Happy Puppy last year, Origami Repetika is back with his first mini-LP for us. The man behind Origami Repetika is Adam Sigmund, who is a member of the Origami Republika collective, and now is also a member of the South Jersey SoundFont Collective (SJSFC). There's lots of bright and sunny sounds in these bouncy chip-tunes, and would probably do well if you were looking for chipmusic to exercise to - case in point, the song "Sunny Morning Exercise...

Infinities is an album of psychedelic folk music first released in 2006. It is comprised of bedroom recordings Allister made from 1999-2001, remastered. The initial release was praised by Terrascope Online: “Featuring some delicately poised vocal overdubs and just the right amount of instrumental ornamentation, the album seems to flow like a river, gently caressing your soul as it talks of the joys and tears of existence, and our place in the universe, the lyrics dealing with melancholy in a...

Adam Sigmund returns to Happy Puppy with a new EP of original songs as Origami Repetika, with a wonderful little four-song EP of dancey and bubbly chiptunes. Actually, this collection of music might appeal to those with young children, as it's full of bouncy, playful and bright melodies, as the title implies. Find out more about Adam at his website.

Presenting the second in the #CCmixtape series of Creative Commons music. This mix by Lee Rosevere focuses on the changing of the season as we move from summer to fall, using a blend of cc-music licensed under BY-NC (and a few ND tracks) found at archive.org and freemusicarchive.org, and public domain recordings of autumnal readings from the wonderful librivox.org site. Very few alterations have been made to tracks that allow it, and we graciously thank the musicians who released their music...

Happy Puppy is proud to announce a new group to the roster: Scarm. This Russian-based band dropped this album on us out of the blue, and it's quite interesting. A curious blend of atmospheric guitars and drums with a experimental and improvisational edge, emotional, darkly melodic noise ambient. This could easily appear on a soundtrack to an underground indie film, but also stands completely on its own. The band describe it as "a storyline about one uncommon day of an ordinary person. It...

When Dave Keifer of Cagey House sent me this EP for release, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. It's quite different from his last release on Happy Puppy - for lack of a better description, it's experimental but still very accessible. It was only until I quizzed Dave about what I was hearing did he give me some background on how the songs were composed. I don't want to give away any secrets (you can ask him if you want) but rather you just listen and enjoy the unpredictable pretty nature...
